Carbon fiber roll base
This co. now offers a metal sleeved carbon fiber roll base. This new, patent-applied-for base uses a lightweight carbon fiber core with a steel sleeve. The sleeve can be ground and resurfaced much like a traditional heavy metal anilox roll, but at a sharply reduced weight, states co. Ceramic coatings adhere as they would on a steel roll as well. In addition, it is said the roll will never become obsolete because the outer steel sleeve can be replaced.

New laser process
Platinum™ is a revolutionary innovation that helps keep ink from plugging the cells in the surface of an anilox roll, says co. This technology is the result of a new CO2 laser process that reacts with trace elements in the co.'s ceramic compounds, creating smoother cell walls and cavities. Scanning electronmicroscopes confirm that the new laser process creates a 60 percent increase in ceramic cauterization—resulting in a cell wall that is much smoother, rounder and more level. The cells created by the Platinum process mean that ink releases easily, so your print jobs wash up faster, reducing downtime and increasing efficiency.

Off-press cleaning system
This off-press system holds the anilox on centers in an enclosed chamber while blasting the surface with a special plastic media. The media are engineered to ensure thorough cleaning without exposing the anilox to potential damage. Through intensive testing, the co. has replicated this cleaning over 400 times without causing any wear to the ceramic coating. Most converters that have instituted cleaning programs have found that if the anilox is deep cleaned immediately after it comes out of the press and before being returned to the storage rack, the operator knows it is capable of delivering the full BCM it was designed for, says co.

Anilox roll cleaner
This co. offers fully automatic anilox roll cleaners designed to deep clean/restore anilox rolls or gravure cylinders of all sizes. The quick and gentle cleaning process is said to leave the anilox rolls totally clean and ready for immediate use after just 10-20 minutes of cleaning without causing any wear and tear to the roll. This makes it possible to keep your anilox rolls totally clean at all times, ensuring a constant and high print quality and a long life for the anilox rolls, says manufacturer.

Unwind
Surface driven
The CMD Model 2352 Surface Driven Unwind is said to increase output and reduce roll changeover. Well-suited for the demands of high speed poly bag and draw tape bagmaking, the Model 2352 delivers film with precisely controlled tension and edge guiding. Film rolls are supported by a center shaft and driven via a cantilevered, split-roll surface drive capable of following irregularly surfaced rolls.

Rewind
With splicing technology
The FilmMaster™ rewind incorporates PerfectStart™ splicing technology for fold-free transfers to new cores. Proper winding is insured during roll formation by driving the roll both through the core and at the surface, utilizing a surface drum. Contact between roll and winding drum is maintained throughout transfer to a new core to reduce or eliminate outer-wrap scrap on the completed roll. Scrap near the core of the new roll is minimized by using PerfectStart splicing technology to eliminate tail fold-back. The design of the winder also provides a significant advantage over conventional turret winders when multi-roll slitting is required.
