TLMI elects officers, adopts 2003 budget

Mark Spaulding -- Converting Magazine, 11/1/2002

The Naperville, IL-based Tag & Label Mfrs. Institute membership elected Jim Valestrino of Los Angeles Label Co. as its 2002-2004 president during the annual business meeting, held Oct. 21 at the Hyatt Regency Lake Las Vegas.

John Bankson, Label Technology, Inc., was chosen as president-elect; and Scott Pillsbury, Rose City Label Co., was voted in as vice president for the next two-year term.

A 2003 budget was also approved, which includes projected revenues of $1,255,905 against projected expenses of $1,246,363.

TLMI membership now totals 292 companies, including 143 converters, 138 suppliers and 11 international members. These figures represent a decline of 11 members overall.

Highlights from the various committee reports:

The Scholarship and Internship Committee says it has raised a total of $675,000 to support the TLMI Scholarship Fund. Leadership donors (more than $5,000) include Mark Andy, St. Louis; and Tarsus Exhibitions, Brookfield, WI.

More than $123,000 has been awarded to students since the scholarship fund was initiated, for college- and university-level education related to graphic-arts, labeling and converting courses of study. A series of new $1,000 scholarships are planned for 2003 to be awarded to technical-school students.

The Technical Committee reports significant progress in organizing the TLMI Technical Conference, set for September 2003 in Chicago. The event will be jointly presented by TLMI and the Flexographic Technical Assn.
