Blister-card paperboard

Heat-seals to barrier films

Three types of paperboard for blister cards heat- seal to many barrier films, including Aclar®. A patented, extrusion-coated paperboard, Print-kote® EasySeal adheres at lower temperatures with a fiber-tear bond to itself and many commonly used blister films/foils. Printkote® EasySeal Plus provides the same qualities but is designed to work more efficiently in more demanding heat-seal applications, such as with Aclar®, PS and PET. Printkote® Blisterpak provides a coated front-side surface for high-impact graphics and an uncoated back-side for line printing and simple graphics. Glue applicator

For windowing machines

A new glue-application system for windowing machine can be mounted and demounted in minutes. Uniform application pattern is maintained throughout the life of the glue pads. The pads have a one-piece, jam-resistant design and are durable, with a life of approximately several million passes. Custom engraving saves make-up time and labor-hour costs, allowing for a price of $1.50/sq in. After receipt of a sample carton, there is an average one-day turnaround. The glue applicator is custom-made for each carton from high temperature-tolerant, 40 Durometer GE Silicone on a .016-in. brass backing. Mounting on the window or gluing machine consists of position and lock down on the drum with "stove pipe clamps" (two per pad). This saves man-hours required to fabricate rubber strips or "flexo" pads, glue them to the drum, and check/recheck timing and positioning. In addition, the pad can be demounted and stored for later use.

Die-cutting system

Processes magnetic materials

The new sheet or roll-fed die-cutting system allows versatility in sheet or web production, while also processing magnetic materials. Printed paper feeds through a heated over-laminate unit, then receives an under-laminate of magnetic material. An optically registered die-cutter then cuts out the product. The finished product is then knocked out of the web at the knock-out station, conveyed to an operator and the remaining matrix is scrap cut at the end of the process.

Specialty adhesive

Prevents corrugated, board warping

AEROBOND™ 32-192A adhesive uses a two-fold approach to prevent warping of corrugated or paperboard behind paper or film to improve POP-display construction. Initially, it permits application of a minimal amount per unit area; secondly, when combined with AEROBOND foaming, the water content significantly decreases, further minimizing moisture. The result is a flat, smooth surface that focuses on graphics rather than any defects. In addition to an improved appearance, says co., the specialty adhesive can be applied at low usage rates, contributing to overall cost effectiveness.

Clutch-brake series

Minimal parts, high torque

The newly redesigned through-shaft clutch brake series offer high torque and fewer parts. With single piston engagement, the series eliminates clutch and brake overlap. The clutch-brake pilot accommodates pulleys, sprocket mounting or coupling attachments. Thermal capacities demonstrate the clutch-brakes' fast cycle rates and large load handling capabilities and small air chamber volumes allow for high cycle rates and low air consumption. With minimal parts and pilot dimensions identical to the original clutch-brake series, installation, maintenance and retrofitting are said to be easy. The products can be used for numerous applications including packaging, material handling, food processing, automotive, wood products, printing and converting.

Web-tension transmitter

Full-function indicator/controllers

The PS-2010T web tension transmitter uses digital-calibration techniques, which eliminate the need for machine "strapping" in most applications and simplify the calibration of systems that do not require loading. Packaged similarly to a mini-PLC "brick," the units can be DIN-rail mounted inside any existing cabinet. A high speed, high resolution, isolated (16 bit) 4-20 mA analog output reportedly provides effective input for a brake/clutch motor controller. Standard units include Dynamic Digital Filtering, eight setpoints and 120 update/sec processing speed. Designed for paper, roofing shingle, film, foil, filament and textile machines, PS-2010T units provide safe operating speed of 2,000 fpm.

Lathe slitter

For p-s tape converting

With a lathe slitter, rolls of tapes are cut to finished width from a rewound "log" of determined length of coated material. The slitter works with one or more knives that plunge into the log of p-s tape to trim the first edge, then cut in sequence finished rolls to required width. The lathe slitting technique features versatility on slitting all products on one type of machine where the changeover time has been reduced. Fully automatic, the working cycle needs only one operator to run multiple machines simultaneously. PC-interfaces display processing statistics on screen, including detailed information about production times/rates, and allow the lathe to be connected to a factory network. Combining automatic "logging machines" and "multi-shaft log slitters" to a packaging line extends the process from parent rolls to finished, packaged and labeled slit rolls.

Cold-form foil

For blister-packed product

Cold-form foil offers protection against moisture, air, and light. When used in combination with co.'s blister foil, higher performance is guaranteed, even under extreme climatic conditions, says co. Used to provide cold-form cavities into which product is inserted and then covered with a suitable lidding foil, the foil possesses high tension-at-break and elongation-at-break mechanical properties, and maintains dimensional stability after cold forming. The specifically adapted performance of each layer makes the foil cold-formable, allowing for various three-dimensional draw ratios, including applications with extreme deep draw requirements. The foil is also suited for high-speed processing and registered printing, and can be used on blister lines with a cold-forming station.

Digital diecutter

Meets JIT, short-run needs

The Kongsberg DCM 22 digital diecutter helps converters meet demand for JIT small lots. Self-loading board onto the cutting and creasing platform, the DCM automatically measures board thickness and depth of cut. The sheet is then cut and creased according to the design from the CAD system. Design files can be nested as well as stepped-and-repeated for maximum material use. Preprinted sheets are cut in registration as the sheet is placed on the cutting surface. Once the material is cut and creased, it is automatically unloaded while the next uncut sheet is loaded on the platform. The system minimizes operator involvement while maintaining continuous operation; the main function of the operator is to load and unload the stacks of material from the DCM.
