Schiavi takes GAA Golden Cylinder tech award
Staff -- Converting Magazine, 8/1/2002
The Gravure Assn. of America honors Bobst Schiavi (Roseland, NJ) with its 2002 Golden Cylinder Award for Technical Innovation for the SG 2000 gravure-printing press. Judges were impressed by the innovative solutions developed by the Schiavi gravure engineering department. The SG 2000 provides printers with efficient methods for running short and long production runs with the same machine. The SG 2000 features an on-board washing system and is capable of using printing cylinder sleeves for impression rollers and the gravure cylinder. Integral-type printing cylinders can also be used, and the press is fitted with a fully automatic, simultaneous change of the printing cylinders, done without operator intervention. The automation reportedly allows job changeover in less than 15 min, regardless of how many printing units are changed. Shown accepting the award is Frank Passarelli, gravure process specialist, flexible packaging, for Bobst Group, Inc.
