All Packaging adds second Mitsubishi sheetfed carton press

Aurora, CO-based folding-carton converter All Packaging Co. recently added a second 6-color, 40-in. Model 3FC press from Mitsubishi LP USA to its operation. The sheetfed-offset system, equipped with UV-curing units, joins the company's first Mitsubishi installation made in 1999.
"Reliability is what first attracted us to Mitsubishi presses," says Kenneth Pepper, All Packaging president. "In the three years the first press has been in operation, we've experienced three hours of unscheduled downtime."
All Packaging runs a 65,000-sq-ft plant with fully equipped prepress and bindery departments. The 70-employee firm specializes in retail folding cartons for food and pharmaceutical customers. Press runs vary from 1,000 to 250,000 sheets.
The new press gives the converter increased capacity as well as flexibility, says Pepper. "It has a wider stock range than our first Mitsubishi press. We can print up to 34-pt packaging board, compared to the 28-pt board we had been running. The UV-curing system supports the use of different coatings and allows us to print on different substrates such as foil and PET."
