Core waste reduction system

This new Core Waste Reduction System is said to reduce core waste at the unwind/splicer by minimizing the amount of material left on the expiring roll's core. Material remains on the expiring core after the splicing operation is complete, but a minimal amount of material is left. The Core Waste Reduction System consists of two primary units, the winder tape applicator unit and the unwind marking detector unit. The winder marking applicator places a tape on the moving web at full speed. The marking detector identifies the marking tape and automatically starts the splice to ensure only a small amount of waste remains on the core.

This co. released a new style of its PERFECT FLOAT® flotation dryer. The Compact Split-hood is a flotation dryer with the fans and burners built-in to the lower half of the dryer box. There is no additional heater box to add, and this design is said to eliminate external ductwork. Each dryer is delivered ready to start with minimum installation time. The PERFECT FLOAT dryers use precision air bars to float a web on a cushion of hot air, which is directed to both sides of the web with high heat transfer and a gentle indirect impingement, says co.

Unwind splicer

A new dual-direction unwind splicer is designed specifically for handling extremely extensible materials as well as standard substrates for coater/laminators. The bump roll runs at line speed. One of the adjacent rollers is web-driven, which in turn drives the bump roll so the bump roll is up to speed for splicing to eliminate scuffing. A complete control system is provided with PLC, AC-vector drives and color touchscreen operator interface.

Silicone roll coater

A new sixth-roll silicone coater design allows the speed differential from roll-to-roll to be minimized, providing a superior coating surface free of pinholes and other imperfections. Speeds of up to 3,300 fpm are possible, while achieving a minimum coatweight application. Coatweights down to 0.3 gsm with tolerances of 0.03 gsm can be attained. The coater also features the advantages of a five-roll design, including trolley setup, closed-loop coatweight control, mist removal, on-machine roll cleaning, and weight changes accomplished by changing the speed of a single roll.
