Material remains on the expiring core after the splicing operation is complete, but a minimal amount of material is left. The Core Waste Reduction System consists of two primary units, the winder tape applicator unit and the unwind marking detector unit. The winder marking applicator places a tape on the moving web at full speed. The marking detector identifies the marking tape and automatically starts the splice to ensure only a small amount of waste remains on the core.
