Tension measurement & closed loop control

FMS USA, Inc., 847/392-7872, fax: 847/392-7873, www.fms-technology.com

The AMGZ series of load cells for dead shaft roller tension applications are offered in several tension forces from 25 to 500 lbs., have single-bolt mounting and can accept roller journal sizes of 1.25 and 1.5 in. Each AMGZ sensor utilizes foil-type strain gauges in a full Wheatstone bridge configuration to ensure an accuracy rating of 0.5 percent combined repeatability, hysterisis, and linearity. Utilizing the co.'s amplifiers, controllers, or 2 channel controllers with the AMGZ load cells is said to ensure accurate control of either a drive or brake, even when measuring at only 5 percent of the sensor's nominal load. The AMGZ sensors also have a temperature coefficient of sensitivity of +/- 0.01 deg C to ensure the sensors do not have temperature drift issues.

Web guide with three-zone system

Double E Co., Inc., 508/588-8099, fax: 508/580-2915, www.doubleeusa.com

The Double E/Re web-guiding system uses brushless DC stepper motors to give precise control over web alignment. This method allows for near-constant movement of the web, as it fluctuates back and forth around the optimum position, states co. This web guide uses a three-zone system with the zero point centered in the "dead zone." The dead zone is flanked by the "slow zone," and the "standard zone" falls beyond that. Double E/Re web-guiding systems are available with many options including edge, center, and line guide sensors.

Controls adjustable for various ranges

MAGPOWR, 636/343-5550, fax: 636/326-0608, www.magpowr.com

DFC-A and DFC-90 dancer or follower arm controls are designed for magnetic particle or pneumatic clutches, brakes and motor/drives. In dancer-control applications, the DFC-A and DFC-90 are closed-loop dancer controls. An advanced control algorithm provides optimum control and ease of use. In follower-arm applications, the DFC-A and DFC-90 control web tension by compensating for measured changes in the roll diameter. An additional stop multiplier provides additional torque to help stop large unwind rolls.
