Offline converting unit

Speeds of up to 1,000 fpm

Ideal for paper, films, foils, vinyl, gaskets and rubber materials, a complete, rotary converting system handles webs up to 60 in. wide. The unit unwinds, die-cuts or punches webs, slits material and then rewinds. Processing speeds of 1,000 fpm are possible, and vacuum removal of waste material is available. A choice of conveyors, stackers, sheeters and fan folders is offered for application at the machine's output. The system is engineered for a variety of products including tea tags, pricing and parking tickets, medical items, foil lidding, gaskets and vinyl signs.

Inline slitter

For tension-sensitive materials

The new 12-in.-wide slitting system slits exceptionally long lengths of PTFE and related tension-sensitive materials inline with an existing spooling operation. The system features separate unwind and slitting modules for the future addition of a heat seal/splice unit. The cantilevered unwind has programmable tension control and end of roll detection.

Core straightener

Portable unit ends damage

The pneumatic Core Straightener restores damaged fiber or metal-capped cores to original roundness in minutes, says co. It can provide immediate payback by eliminating lost production/downtime, costly storage or return of damaged roll stock, and compromised customer delivery schedules. Available for 3- and 6-in. cores, the straightener features a rugged all-steel frame; tough, hermetically sealed nylon-reinforced elastomer bellows impervious to most contaminants; three-way, two-position actuating slide valve; pressure relief valve; and optionally, a pressure regulator and gauge. The unit is air operated and easy to use.

Tension-control system

Load-cell based operation

For tension sensing in any zone throughout a web-processing machine, a new Montalvo load-cell based control system measures the force generated by the web as it bends around a roller. The angle of interface between the web and the sensor roll can range from low to 180 deg, and sensors can be mounted at whatever angle is convenient. SW-Series load cells are suitable for idler or live roller applications and are produced in three sizes for a range of sensing applications from tissue to paperboard.

Extrusion resin

For film, foil coating, laminating

Nucrel® AE resin for extrusion coating and extrusion laminating enhances adhesion to aluminum foil and metallized film when blended into LDPE. Productivity can be improved via higher line speed; better heat seal and hot tack performance; decreased process temperatures for improved taste/odor; and elimination of labor-intensive and messy chemical priming.

Prepress software

Centrally stores designs

Webcenter is for communicating and presenting product design and specifications over the Web. The web-based software provides converters with the ability to create a central store of designs, that can be used internally to improve operation efficiency, or externally with customers.

Coating resin

Yields improved sealing properties

Exxco™ 012 extrusion-coating resin, made from proprietary Exxpol™ catalyst technology, is a new linear polymer with plastomer-like performance. With its 0.912 g/cc density and 12 g/10 min. melt index, new Exxco 012 resin was developed primarily for paper and paperboard extrusion-coating applications. Its low seal-initiation temperature (195 deg F), broad sealing window and strong seal strength allow it to outperform conventional resins currently used in extrusion coatings, says co. Tests indicate that Exxco 012 has better adhesion properties to oriented polypropylene film than either ethylene vinyl alcohol or low-density polyethylene resins.

Inks & coatings

Powder-free for offset use

Eliminate spray powders from the package-printing process and achieve powder-free runs with fast-drying sheetfed offset inks and coatings. The capability is especially important to converters who must now produce finished packages that show no trace of any powder, which might confuse or alarm consumers.
