Flexible operation is key to Spanish converter's success

Staff -- Converting Magazine, 12/1/2001

The latest Dusenbery high-output TTR slitter is hard at work near Barcelona. The 636TTR thermal-transfer ribbon machine, installed by Spanish converter GEMA O.D., joins the company's other slitter/rewinder systems long used to convert audiotape. The converter expanded its business recently to Europe-wide markets for TTR. While speed of the operation has increased to 1,600 fpm, more important to GEMA has been the system's flexibility. Cycle times are short, but the 636TTR's twin rewind turrets allow a new run to start while the last set of rolls is unloaded. The equipment, placed by Dusenbery Europe Ltd., Bedford, U.K., also helps ensure minimal changeover downtime.
