The KOLDfoil formulations are available for the cure-tru or conventional cold foil printing process. Cold foil was introduced to the flexographic printing industry in the late 1990s.

Roll handling cart

Featuring a heavy-duty steel frame, heavy-duty cam carriage bearings and roller-type wheel bearings, the TL800 roll handling cart is an ergonomically sound and safe transporter of rolled materials, co. says. Optional attachments include an electric hoist with a 12-V sealed, deep cycle battery and onboard battery charger. Platesetter
Go from computer to plate
The Prosetter 102 computer-to-plate device images a maximum of 12 plates per hour at 2,450 dpi. Designed to grow with customers' production needs, the platesetter can be upgraded with options including internal punch, a faster version imaging 18 pph or a fully-automatic unit with co.'s single cassette loader with 100 to 150-plate capacity or multi-cassette loader with up to 400 to 650-plate capacity.

Flat-die extrusion tooling system
Debuts at NPE 2006
In accordance with the Custom Engineered Die System, which will debut at NPE 2006, June 19–23 in Chicago, co. designs and builds ready-to-operate assemblies for installation between the extruders and the equipment downstream of the die lip exit. By integrating the die with all the components that work with it, the system increases the efficiency of the entire production line, co. says.

Gripper
For large-diameter rolls
In order to assist film and sheet makers who deal with large-diameter rolls, co. created the gripper, a mechanical arm for its three winders — models 1002, 1002DS and 1027S. The arm transfers the weight of the rolls from the shaft to the arm. This pneumatic device hooks onto the end of a winding shaft, lifts it and swings it away from the machine, maintaining its hold until a cart arrives for roll removal.

Label paper
For self-adhesive labeling applications
Co. has initiated development of a new label paper grade for self-adhesive labeling applications used by breweries. This move is in response to the growing interest from breweries seeking to reduce material costs, improve production efficiency and use environmentally-friendly labels. High-speed winder
For heavy paperboard
Co.'s turret rewinder for large rolls of paperboard and paperboard laminations can wind rolls up to 90 in. in diameter at speeds up to 1,500 fpm. Paperboard and laminations up to 38 pt can be automatically cut and transferred to a fresh core at full line speed and then wound into a full-diameter roll using the surface/center winding technique.

Dual turret winder

The FILMATIC Tx dual turret winder is an evolution of the FILMATIC T model. Like the T model, it also features center, gap and reverse winding capabilities, as well as adhesive-free web transfer. But unlike its predecessor, it can handle a roll diameter of either 40 or 47 in., whereas the T model can handle a 31.5-in. diameter. Another difference is that it is available in a face-to-face or back-to-back configuration that places two winders alongside one another.

Roll packaging system
Runs metallized film as fast as paper
The GS-4 series, high-speed roll packaging system can run metallized films at the same production rate as paper. This automated production line for rolled, wrapped and labeled products has speeds up to 820 fpm or 75 rolls per minute. The standard range for rolls is 1.25 to 2 in., with larger or smaller diameters available. Web widths are 31.5 to 40 in. and cut lengths are electronically adjustable in millimeter increments from 3.3 to 40 ft., with optional lengths up to 165 ft.

Frostbite™ is a freezer-grade, hot melt adhesive with excellent initial tack and adhesion to flexible packaging and varnished paperboard packaging when applied at freezer conditions, co. says. The adhesive will also adhere to a variety of surfaces despite certain amounts of frost and/or moisture. It also works, when applied at room temperature, with highly textured surfaces like wood products, low-energy plastics and oily surfaces.

The new face plate designs covered by this patent allows the web cleaners to clean extremely thin materials like tissue paper and thin plastic film at very low to very high line speeds. Measures curability of inks, coatings
The CON-TROL-CURE thin film calorimeter (TFC-9000™) measures the curability of inks, coatings and adhesives to ensure that they are curing consistently, batch-to-batch. By measuring the cure rate, it can determine the UV LED wavelengths needed to achieve the desired speed for each customer's specific process. It can also create a profile of adhesives and figure out the LED's needed to ensure cure, regardless of the adhesives' age.

Evaluates flexo plates, films and printed sheets
The FlexoCam is a quality control tool for evaluating flexographic plates, film and mask, and printed sheets. On the plate, relief height, dot percentage, screen rulings and angles can all be measured, either on a flat plate or on the cylinder. The same measurements can be done for the film, mask and printed sheets. Ink control system

The KeyColor T System is a compact ink control system that provides touch screen control of fountain ink keys for sheetfed or web applications. Press operators are able to quickly adjust ink key settings from a central ink desk to speed up makeready and reduce waste. When combined with AutoSet presetting software, it can use the digital data from an image setter or computer-to-plate system to preset all ink keys for even faster makeready. The system can also interface with color-measuring devices to provide closed-loop color solutions for web and sheetfed presses.
